This box is basically the same thing as the ONN 4K Pro but you get the benefit of paying 2x as much for 4GB of RAM vs 3GB… :rofl: :rofl:

I wonder if the google streamer and 'droid 14 have a file browser though. Onn Pro without one is a definite no buy for me %100

@Miki what is a “File Browser” and what do you do with it? Are you saying the ONN 4K Pro does not have one? What is the benefit of having one?

A file browser allows you to more easily uninstall bloatware. It also allows access to important files like DATA and OBB for establishing permissions and important functions for recording like System Picker and storage. As far as the Onn Pro not having one @Tech2 brought to my attention it doesn’t have one when I was trying to help with instructions for the Onn Box and he meant the ONN Pro.

Gotcha…Well I have been streaming since 2016 and haven’t had a need for any of that nor know why I would so the ONN 4K Pro suits my needs.

Oh ya I know my friend. But it is an important facet of our hobby to a lot of users who attempt recording etc. Just something I think every user should know before they buy one. Have fun @MarkxG and be well.

I have no idea what System Picker is and record very little. BUT when I need to I can fire up my 7 year old T95Z Plus Box running android 7 and record anything I want. I don’t think old android needs any stinking System Picker

Yup old droids work much better for this sort of thing. I don’t record either but for those who do 'droid 11 and up has been a real PITA. It’s why I love my Nvidia Shield Pro. I can do anything I want.

Now you have me interested with this file browser discussion. I just picked up an onn pro and same as my shield pro I installed X-plore and I have all the same access as I do on the shield pro using x-plore. On one side I have it connected to a Dropbox account so I can upload and download files. I can navigate the internal file structure graphically to install and uninstall. Now, I don’t have either system rooted, so I can only traverse the emulated internal shared storage on either device, but to the best of my knowledge that’s a separate issue altogether. Are you saying you can root your shield pro but you cannot root an onn pro? If that’s what you’re saying, then I get it, but if you’re saying the shield pro comes with more file system access than the onn pro in regard to non-rooted, out of the box features… I’d love to understand how?

I’m afraid I cannot respond to this as I don’t have or use an Onn Pro. But it was summarily pointed out to me by @Tech2 that the Onn Pro does not have a file browser so certain functions are not possible. I tried to express that X-plore may be an option but as I do not have an Onn Pro I am unable to say. Sounds to me like you have done precisely what I said should be possible. Perhaps you can envite @Tech2 to a discussion on his issues and give him guidance in achieving what he wants. Thank you for your posts. One question, you have a drop box account but have you been able to create your own internal network, as I did with my Shield Pro and my other devices to send/share and receive APKs/APPs using the Onn Pro? Perhaps we should create a thread under a n Onn Pro topic rather than hijack this one.
But one more important question. Are you saying X-plore can access the file structure in the Onn Pro and access say the Data and OBB folders and give full access read and write permissions, and you can create a new file or folder in the Data folder in the Onn Pro?

I’d be happy to act as a testing sandbox if you want to move to another thread, for about a week or two, once I compete this device’s config I need to ship it to my dad, he’s been without since he “accidentally” wiped and reset the last one when trying to reboot it :man_facepalming:t2: just let me know, but I can quickly say it certainly should be able to work within a home LAN. In fact, this onn is the first time I’ve struggled at all with file sharing and the reason was the Dropbox helper api is blocked in x-plore so I had to login to my Dropbox in a Downloader browser first and that took forever to figure out. What I’m saying is a local share wouldn’t need 2FA api helper like the Dropbox so it would have been way easier. Adding a local share just needs the typical credentials, but I don’t have a share set up here at the moment, I’m sure I could create a test one on my laptop if needed, but it’s all very standard looking. Can also do FTP or SSH or WiFi sharing and there’s 8 other cloud options besides Dropbox such as Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.

I support 3 other family member’s houses so I need to be able to get updates when in their house, so I need the Dropbox option instead of a local server. I can remote with them and pull APKs from a free cloud this way and it’s fast, easy, and free. :tipping_hand_man:t2: and I don’t have to maintain anything on my network at all.

Yup that’s what I did to create a LAN assigned my tablet as a server and assigned a name and password.
What I’m dying to know is if you can access the file structure in the Onn Pro.

You can see in this attached that I have read/write/modify permissions to the
“Internal Shared Storage” i.e.,

 “/storage/emulated/0/“

which is where the DCIM, Documents, Download, etc folders are, but not the protected
“Root”, i.e.,

 “/“

so I think that’s more than the system picker, right?

I literally have x-plore installed and configured EXACTLY the same on both the Shield Pro and the onn pro so they look and act EXACTLY the same. I keep the same folder structure on both so I always have my files in the same spot no matter which device I’m on, even the Fire Sticks 4k Max I manage like EXACTLY the same as that screen and preforms the same functions too. Basically, I set up x-plore exactly how I like it and exported it to a config file which I import on every system I build.

In the attached you should be able to see I also can work with non-system apks using the App Manager, but I can’t touch the System controlled apks.

I’m mostly an Apple ecosystem except for streaming devices for obvious reasons, but last night I found a free iPhone app “Bugjaeger” that makes sending adb shell commands so ridiculously easy, I’m shocked. Braden between that app and x-plore I am like working on this onn pro. I’m not giving up my shields yet, they are still king, but it’s really really close now. The only things that make me say that are the remote, I hate the onn remote but I’m going to swap it for a shield remote anyway, and I’m worried about the Dropbox api I error I got. Keep in mind I haven’t tested video/audio at all, I’m just taking about build quality and management. I even got AnyDesk working for a minute, then it broke, so that’s also tough for me. Just like a fire stick I can remotely VIEW with AnyDesk, but I can’t control it remotely, which I can do on there shield. That’s still good enough because I can get on a phone call with my parents and look at their screen using AnyDesk and tell them what to click and that beats making them hold up a phone using FaceTime in one hand and clicking the remote with the other lol

Absolutely freaking perfect and exactly what I said should be possible. Looks like you have already accessed the Data folder which means you have the permissions. Absolutely perfect as this supports what I said would be possible. Thanks.

Haven’t tried teamviewer, I have just a free account I use to access my laptop, that I never use, but I should look into it. I guess I could try creating multiple free accounts, or just one new one to test :thinking:

The big question. Using the ONN Box, with Kodi installed, can you access the folders in Kodi? I don’t see where you have access to anything in the Data folder except 1 thing. There should be a lot more than 1 thing in there if you have full access. Not using the computer to access, just strictly a file explorer of some type installed on the ONN Box
well, I guess you’re already gone for the night. Just to be clear or make it easier → You don’t have to install Kodi if you don’t already have it. You just need to go into the internal shared storage, then the Android folder, then you should see the data, media, and obb folders. Access the data folder right there and tell me what you see. Or you don’t even have to type it, a screenshot would suffice fine.

Was looking at your video again and I noticed you’re not even going into the Android folder and the subsequent directory after that which would contain the data, media, and obb folders. Can you try that and see what’s in there? I need access to THAT data folder. This is where Kodi files would be located if we were able to have access.
