I have surf shark VPN. It has its moments but it does work 98% of time. My biggest problem now is when I get about over 100 hours on the VPN, it will disconnect from my IPTV service however the internet will still be open on connected but no stream. I have to shut off and turn it back on a couple of times to get a streaming connection then it’s all good. This happens on both my 4K Maxx, and my proshield different hdim cables

Ok, I just put my iPhone on 5ghz in same room as Onn, and fire stick. Got 315mbps w/o vpn, and 247 mbps with proton. I can’t get more than 50 on the two devices.

Does anybody know where to find the link speed on a fire stick or on 4k pro. I’ve done all the tests on my WiFi system but don’t know where link speed is for tv/firestick. All other devices are good.

Go into the Playstore and install the Annaliti speed test app

I have annaliti WiFi analyzer in my apps. I looked today and can’t see where the link speed might be. Is there two annaliti. Thanx Mark

I have no idea what you mean by “link speed”. What is link speed? What are you trying to do?

The WiFi speed is what tp link wanted to see today and the corresponding download speed

Sorry I do not understand what you are trying to do. I thought you wanted to know what wifi speed you are getting on your devices. That’s why I said to use Annaliti. This looks like it’s on your PC. If you want to check your speed on your devices you need to use. a speed test App like Annaliti Hopefully someone else can figure out what you are trying to do and help you

Yes, tp link tech support wanted speeds and link speeds from broadband and WiFi. 2.4ghz and 5 ghz speeds with and without vpn on. It’s kinda like 10/100/1000. They said devices are good except they can’t figure out why the fire stick drastically slows with vpn and said I need proton help. Both my fire sticks on both tv’ are 247mbps, 5gbz, and 30-40 mbps with vpn on

From your PC go to speedtest.net and run the online test. It will give you your DOWNLOAD SPEED and UPLOAD SPEED. Most ISP’s will say if the speed you are getting is at least 70% of what you are paying for , then you are good. IN OTHER WORDS: If you pay for say a 1 gig service (1000 MB’s) and your speedtest is saying you get 700MB download, then the ISP is going to tell you that is within the specs of what you agreed to when you entered into service with them. Of course there are more factors regarding speeds including but not limited to your equipment & hardware as in speed rating of ethernet card, motherboard, router speed (is it an older model?) etc. Do some research on it.…Good Luck and STREAM ON!

My speeds are excellent on my puter, iPhones, and fire tv’s. Until I turn on vpn then my fire tv’s drop to 30-40 mbps from 247 without vpn. It’s with proton and surfshark. And I only have one vpn downloaded. This is baffling. These are Wi-Fi speeds in 5ghz

I think this is normal from other posts I see here. I don’t use a VPN not because of speed degradation but I’m not paranoid and have been streaming for 8! Years without one.

I reread Troy’s review of the 4k pro his test speeds were with WiFi 6. I believe my router even though older has WiFi 6 , guess I’ll look into turning it on. And seeing

Well proton support doesnt seem to think it’s a problem dropping from 247 w/o to 24mbps with vpn on

Proton doesn’t care about streaming devices. Speeds aren’t an issue for me and I get better speeds than I pay for. What I don’t get is access to all the configuration settings. That’s my biggest issue with them and you won’t get any CS assistance for these issues. They will give you a lame excuse and tell you it’s something they will look into, but never do. Bottom line, don’t expect Proton to help you with any streaming device issues or conflicts with their Apps and your streaming device.

Funny you should say that, they asked if I tried different protocols. What, can’t do that with your tv app!! Wth. Seems they could figure out why all my devices are good except the fire stick and on on two different tv. My router tech support did more in 4 hrs and told me it’s the vpn

You can’t do that with Proton on any streaming device. I didn’t say TV. My VPN is installed on my streaming devices, not the TV. It may be different if installed on the modem/router as well, I can’t say, as I haven’t tried that. Proton VPN has never adversely affected my speeds on any streaming device I’ve used, including 4K Max. I pay for 150Mbs down and always get better than that.

I said it wrong. Yes devices. But, I can’t figure out why both my devices get 24mbps and my phones and puter are perfect.

Miki, what does this tell you

Tells me you’re getting about 73Mbs down. Have you tried a different WiFi channel. I’m locked mine onto 136 as noone else in my building was on it. My phone also gets way better speeds than that. Also tells me that you may have an issue as your Ping is high. Either a poor connection, interference, poor cable to the modem etc.
