can you tell me what the whitelist is. thanks

Whitelist in this form of discussion indicates a list of apps that an app cleaner or virus cleaner would not force close. In other words it’s a trusty app or program that a virus cleaner or an app management tool would not force close or remove.
You can look it up in the dictionary and see what the definition is in general population.

You can access router modem settings from your cell phone. You just use the web browser. Same as you would with a computer.

Just curious if you found any issues with Google TV Freeplay app with yours.

I was having issues on 3 of my devices. NVIDIA, onn 4k Pro and onn 4k. I was unable to watch any prorams on the Freeplay app. Others like Pluto worked.

I did a factory reset on one onn and so far its back to normal but i am worried if i reinstall the app it will happen again.

The Google error message on the Onn said using an ad blocker might be causing the issue. Even after I disconnected the app and also deleted the app the problem was still there.

I cant say 100% sure the app caused the problem but i think it may have.

Wondering if anyone else had an issue and if there a fix besides factory reset.

Hi,

Disconnecting the app is not enough.

You need to click on the button “Stop using encrypted DNS servers”. This will revert your system DNS settings back to default.

My app being connected/disconnected does not make any changes to your system.

Only clicking Start using … & Stop Using … actually makes the change.

Try this:

  1. Install my app
  2. Confirm freeplay is still working
  3. Open my app, connect and click on Start using encrypted dns
  4. Check if freeplay is working (most likely not)
  5. Open my app, connect and select stop using encrypted dns
  6. Confirm Freeplay is working again
  7. Open my app, connect and this time select another DNS server and then select start using encrypted dns
  8. Test freeplay

You might need to repeat steps 7 and 8 until you find a DNS server that is happy with free play.

If not, you can just select “stop using encrypted dns” whenever you want to use the freeplay

Thanks. I was able to get it back. I did have to connect the DNS before I could disconnect it. It looked as if it was disconnected but i guess it was still running un the background. I had deleted the app on other devices but still had the issue. Was it still running after i deleted the app?

I haven’t tried to see if there is one that works with Freeplay yet. I will test out later.

I put this on my nvidea shield, turned on USB debugging and network debugging, then hit connect picked a server then start using and exit, when I go back into this app it shows not connected and have to repeat same process. I tried disconnect my VPN with same results, the app seems to disconnect when I exit and have no way of knowing if it is working.

I think @TechDoctorUK is saying that the app is still active even though it looks like it isnt. And perhaps in my case even after i deleted the app.

You only need network debugging on Nvidia shield not usb debugging.

My app does NOT need to remain connected for you to continue using encrypted DNS servers.

I explained it here - https://youtu.be/kl8_9wqqYZY?si=tmdYenb4REKHRpet

I enjoyed the test version whilst it lasted.

I tried to download the paid version from playstore. But apparently it isnt available for my Ugoos AM8 running on AOSP.

Thanks for info, would make it a little easier if it showed connected instead of disconnected when you open the app

I watched the video and think I have it straightened out now, thank you for info and quick reply

I had to download it onto my Formuler Z11 pro max from Google Play store and then send a copy to a cloud and then side load it to my UGOOS SK 1 and it’s working perfectly. :+1:

Thanks PapaS.

Unfortunately, I dont have a device that runs on ATV to do that.

Its just a pity that there isnt an AOS version, that I would gladly pay for.

You might try using ATVTools and setting DNS to this (works on both Firestick and Android/Google TV)

BTW, this is the way to use encrypted DNS on Firestick as well.

sheldon:/ $ settings put global “dns_servers” “194.242.2.4,8.8.4.4”

sheldon:/ $ settings get global dns_servers

194.242.2.4,8.8.4.4

sheldon:/ $

The above commands were executed on a Firestick Lite, it should be the same for all Android based streamers. It worked on my Onn 4k Pro too.

This sets the DNS to 193.242.2.4 (base.dns.mullvad.net) and 8.8.4.4 open Google DNS)

The way DNS works is you can have up to three servers, if a lookup fails for the first it will try the second and so on.

If you do this on a Firestick you will see the original DNS settings under “Advanced” for the network but it is changed, Amazon doesn’t do a get command, just displays the original strings you entered during setup.

I find the best way to check is to open Downloader and go to a site, you will not see the extra ads added in Downloader, the ads do pay for the free Downloader app so there’s that, but you will know ads are being blocked.

I wonder how this will work with horse race betting sites. Many states block access.

A VPN can make it appear you are from a different state. That should work as far as location but payment methods, not so much.

Yeah I have used vpns. Seem to be hit or miss.
