I gotta say, I have the original Onn 4k with Android TV, the later one with Google TV and a Pro and a Plus. None of them bricked because of the update, the external USB was a pain on both the older ones but the update worked fine, I have all four updated to 14 now.

I did keep all most all apps on external storage so that was a problem, basically had to rebuild them but not really an update issue after Troy did the storage clip, frankly the uid 10 user was something that had to be addresses long ago I just forgot about it, didn’t expect the user to be added back.

My 4k is still 12, my pro is 14.

I believe AMD’s guess is correct.
Being ignorant, I installed the update that was pushed out on a regular ONN 4k.
A bunch of stuff stopped working, including Kodi opening, Tivimate acting funky and the adopted memory not being recognized.

I ended up needing to do a factory reset.
The issues with adding adopted memory are the same as Troypoint noted in his videos. I haven’t yet had a chance to try several jump drives yet. The one that I did try, did not work.

After supercharging my onn 4k Plus (with Dev options, Stremio, Surfshark, launcher);
Attempting to use the * (Settings) button to connect Bluetooth headphones.
I tried to map, via tvQuickActions (not pro) to “settings.” You are then sent to the Top level of Settings and forced to further navigate to the Bluetooth section to connect your headphones (and then back, back, back to get to where you were viewing content).
You can also attempt to assign, via a long press on Settings to a Bluetooth selection field). That was not possible (maybe because of no Pro version?).
On my onn 4K (not Plus nor Pro) I can hit the * button and the settings panels will fly out over the current screen and I can then directly pick Bluetooth.

After a full reset, and supercharging without launcher, I was able to still use the * button (without tvQuickActions) to get to the flout settings panels and directly to Bluetooth.

On another Bluetooth issue: After some viewing in both configurations, Bluetooth audio was lost. I was still connected to my headphones (with no sound), but to correct this, I needed to disconnect/ connect.

I may hold on to the packaging and plan on a return if other issues arise. I personally have not found any magnitude increase of performance from onn 4K (not Plus nor Pro) to onn 4k Plus. Yes, specs may show marked improvement, but in my application, not worth having another box around when the other fulfills my needs.

Used Troypoint toolbox to download “Fast Task Killer” and app is not showing up in apps list.

Also looking for “Background Apps & Process List” app and cannot find it in any search. Is there a downloader code for it?

Are these apps not compatible with Android version 14???

Background Apps and Process List. This is the devs github.

Whoever moved this issue to ONN 4K Pro was wrong - this is a ONN 4K Plus issue.

I absolutely agree that if the devices you currently have meet your needs there is not reason to invest in new devices.

I really like my Plus and Pro because the built-in storage much easier to deal with. I still have USB storage on some of my devices but the truth is sooner or later there will be an issue, failed USB, upgrade screws it up etc. So that alone made the Pro and Plus worthwhile and frankly the cost was as much or less than buying a device, USB stick and cable.

I know any box, Onn, Google, Apple, Nividia or Firestick can fail but my experience has been I’ve only had failures of Firesticks, granted, they were old.

But I do agree with you, @Miki would too considering his long time use of Nvidia. He mentioned the other day in here some where that he gave away all of his Firesticks.

I have both the Onn 4k Android TV and the Onn 4k Google TV boxes, they work great. So you will get no argument from me.

My bad. So many unecessary threads created I missed the small details. Thanks for letting me know.

I did some searching on Reddit and came across the Downloader code for “Background Apps & Process List” which is 793967. Ran this on ONN4K Plus at Android 14 and it works.

Still a mystery why it did not show up on a search for apps.

Now the issue with “Fast Task Killer” still is not solved.

Background apps absolutely works on the Onn’s running 14

For everyone trying to set up the new Onn 4K Plus with Projectivy Launcher if you are having the problem that Troy has in the video where accessibility settings wont stay turned on then all you have to do is install Projectivy directly from the Play Store instead of sideloading it and then it will allow accessibility settings to turn on and stay on correctly. This way you dont have to use Launch Manager and Projectivy will work as it should. Supposedly the Onn Plus won’t allow accessibility settings for some apps that are sideloaded instead of coming direct from Play Store. Idk if thats true but i know downloading Projectivy from Play Store fixed the issue on my box. Also if you use TDUK App Killer then don’t forget to whitelist Projectivy so it doesnt kill it with other apps. Hope this this helps my fellow Insiders

There is an app called sai, which you can install apks through which will allow all permissions for you.

I have just experienced the blocking of flix tv and cinema hd as well. I just ordered an Onn box. I have never used a google device. Do you have a post to walk me through initial setup? Thanks

Last week I wanted to try out the new $29.95 Onn streamer. What a dreamboat. It really is so simple to setup, most is automatic. I found it very fast even better that my Mcool pro streamer. The TV setup feature works as you would expect, the Mcool never did even after updates, folks using Fire Sticks, get out from under Amazon’s hard rules and be free to download anything you want from Google and or TroyPoint tool box.The only hiccup is scrolling thru a grid of channels and programs. It only will scroll one line at a time. But, the page up feature works good and moving from the top to half way thru the list of programs/channels is just fine. Truly this unit performs better than some very expensive streaming devices.
