I had issues the first day, screen kept flickering black and kept kicking me back to home screen. I boxed it up to send back, but s buddy from work took it for 2 days and brought it back. Said he had no issues setting it up. We factory reset it, I installed my stuff, working like a champ.

I bought one of these to try out. This is a great box. It actually replaced one of my Shields that was starting to act up…again. I have some Onn boxes as well but this Rock Tek is a beast. Out performs my Shields. Now, I know a few Shield fans will be butt hurt about that.. I’m very pleased with this purchase. Some ppl will chime in about t95z boxes, etc etc, but this box is great. It’s spec’d great, performs excellent. Sure I could of went a little cheaper, but I’m glad I didn’t. Just ordered 2 more of these bad boys. :peace_symbol:

Looks like a nice Box especially with the Amlogic S905X4. But at $149 this is about 3 times more than a similarly spec’d T95Z Plus (4GB RAM, 32GB Storage)

I tried to find it here in Canada and unless I’m missing something it’s $278 here.

I just did a quick google search and amazon came back top of line

Ya that price I quoted is on the Amazon dot ca site. Yowsa.

Got one on the way! Maybe Troy will review it soon if enough Insiders show interest in it. Always enjoy his Videos and Tutorials.

There’s a site I saw selling them for $139 US. No remorse with this purchase. @MarkxG I had a T95Z as well, from quite a few years back. My daughter took it to college with her and never any complaints. She’s a senior now, still using it. So, yes… T95Z is a great alternative.

Ya, our cdn dollar sucks and then there’s import fees. They get us coming and going.

I tell ya, it’s gotten real bad, really really bad. I’m up near Columbus Circle, CP West, it’s everywhere. We’ve been staying out of the city as much as possible

What if it’s mailed as a gift?

Oh ya that will get around the rules for sure. Smart thinkin.

Got the R2G2 in and set it up. Smooth Sailing with that, including KODI & The Crew, TiviMate w/ 3 IPTV subs and a VOD, VPN (still using IPVanish, works great for me) & All the usual stuff we learned on here thanks to ALL of your great knowledge and help along the way. Thanks TXRon for alerting me abut this RockTek Box. Its a powerful little rascal for sure !!

It is just a rock solid box, so the RockTek name makes sense. I had my doubts when I first got it because of my unfamiliarity with the brand, but it has exceeded my expectations for sure. I think it may have had 3 OTA updates if I remember right, a sign they care about box support.

I’d like to give my initial impressions on this box. I’ve had it about 3 weeks now and its been solid. As soon as I got it, it had an update waiting. It was the one that adds ads with the new UI. It didn’t matter as I went ahead and disabled the default launcher.

I went ahead and installed Projectivity launcher, customized the UI and added my own wallpaper. This even starts in Dolby Vision when I first turn it on. I’ve been using it daily for IPTV and RD and the apps have been as smooth as can be. Its been certified by Google, has Chromecast, and Nvidia gaming is available just like on the Shield so I am not worried about any type of malware being on it.

The specs are top notch for video and audio, but my 4K TV only has HDMI 2.0 so can’t utilize everything…yet.

I like the remote. The button layout is pretty easy for me. I didn’t care for the Shield remote button layout, especially changing volume levels. It didn’t seem intuitive to me. There are dedicated streaming app buttons but I haven’t taken the time to reprogram them yet. A numpad is at the top if you are typing a lot of URLs I guess it can come in handy. My only gripe about the remote is there isn’t a backlight and I am usually watching TV in low light, but the more intuitive layout helps with that.

All in all I recommend this box. It has great specs, especially for a high-mid priced device.

Good review…thanks for your thoughts. I agree with what you said about the box. It just seems to work well and is a solid box with a pretty nice remote. When I bought it, I was hopeful that it was going to be as good as the specs show. Realistically, I guess I was ready to be disappointed. I am glad I took the chance, we use it in our bedroom nightly without issue.
