Monitor Dot is working as expected.

When the VPN’s “Kill Switch” kicks in to block the internet connection when the VPN is turned off, it is working correctly to protect your IP address, so my app shows a green dot to indicate this.

If the kill switch is off, and you then turn off the VPN, Monitor Dot will then turn red because at that point you are unprotected and your IP address is exposed.

Thanks I get it.The last vpn didn’t have a kill switch . So I was a little confused.

Should your app be on the split tunnelling option in my VPN settings.
Meaning bypass the VPN.

I don’t think it will make a difference one way or the other as long as it can connect to MonitorDot.com to check for updates.

I hate that red dot!

In the couple of years I’ve had it I’ve seen it maybe 3 times.

Let me rephrase that, I hate seeing that Green Dot on my screen.

I have mine turned down to almost off, and %90 transparent as I don’t care when my VPN is working, only when It’s not. So I turn the red up full so when it starts flashing I can’t help but notice.

As @Miki mentioned, you can go into the Settings of Monitor Dot and reduce the brightness of the dot to almost nothing, so you won’t notice it when it’s green. But then set the Red brightness to maximum so it will be noticeable when the VPN is off.

My SS has been really good about cutting the internet when needed.

If my VPN had a killswitch for the Shield I wouldn’t bother with the safety dot.

What! No kill switch!?

Even if a VPN has a kill-switch, it can fail too.

I designed Monitor Dot to take up hardly any memory/resources when it’s running and you can hide the green dot when the VPN is running ok and only show the red dot when it fails, so you have nothing to loose running Monitor Dot as a backup security measure.

Oh I know that. The monitor dot can also fail, anything can. I’ve used the dot since it came out. Redundancy is a beautiful thing. Lol.

This is a great app but doesn’t work if you’re on a VPN router. It only works if you use a vpn app from your device. I use a privacy hero vpn router. Its great and fast. It has a built in kill switch and protects my entire network. I also use Nord VPN over the included Wireguard VPN. Dont get me wrong. Wireguard is an excellent VPN. I just need the app for other devices when I’m away from my home router.

Are you on Z100?

I used to be before I got hurt but you’re most likely thinking of MC Froggy.

Thank you, Troy! Great summary! Question: I really need that GREEN DOT blinking on my screen to let me know my VPN is working. I attempted to download and install both VPN Monitor Dot and VPN Privacy Dot and neither work on the Onn 4k Plus. Any suggestions?

Hello, I have personally stopped recommending VPNs that don’t have a working kill switch. Depending on the app/addon that you’re using it only takes a second for your IP address to be made public.

You can read more about my stance on this at the following link.
