Make sure Developer Options are enabled and Play Protect is not

See my post 5 days ago.

With an update to the Onn Pro, the monitor privacy dot no longer wanted to run but it runs on the 4k original one. The regular monitor dot from here runs no problem as does the original from the playstore. You can run it in basic mode for free still. It will nag you once every 24 hours and you just dismiss. Not sure about this new one as I’ve heard about a number of issues.

I tried this but I get an adb.exe : device unauthorized error.

Some Notes:

  1. When you first connect to the android TV device from your PC, a “Allow USB Debugging” dialog should appear on the android TV device - this is where you “Authorize” the device. If you don’t see it, then reboot your device and connect to it again with ADB.
  2. If your PC and the android TV device are on the same network (and any VPN is OFF), you can connect to the device over a network (instead of a USB cable) by entering “ADB connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx” where xxx is the android tv device’s IP address.
  3. When your PC is connected to the Android TV device, enter “ADB Devices” and make sure you see the device listed.
  4. Now try the ADB install command again.

Thanks for the added steps. I did not realize I had to authorize the device and did not have an otg cable connected. Its working now!

I am working on a new version specifically for Android 14 devices so users wont have to perform that complicated process to install it.

I’ll post more info when its ready for testing.

I got it to work. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Works great now

I just released a new “Test” version for Android 14 devices. Please see this post: VPN Monitor Dot on Firestick/Android (VPNSafetyDot Alternative) - #22 by Miki

Still won’t install on Samsung S23 phone. Says app not compatible. :person_shrugging:

Oh, that’s a different issue - that’s not the “Android 14” issue that this new test version fixes. The error you see is after you successfully installed the app and then run it. The Android 14 error happens when you simply just try to install the app.

Monitor Dot is currently only designed for “TV” devices (“landscape” mode device), not smartphones - so that is why you are receiving that particular error. Supporting smartphones is on my todo list for a future version.

I doubt it but I hope there is a way to go back…
I was watching a show and the red monitor light started to blink. I counted slowly to 30 and increased it to 60 and the show was still playing. I went to home and did “Internet Speed Test” and it showed 95 on the upload, checked my internet connection “ethernet connected”, did another speed test through settings, results the same and the red light is still blinking.
Opened SS and immediately VPM reconnected. My settings on the VPN are fastest country -on, kill switch -on.
Maybe there was something wrong with the last installation of my VPN dot so I uninstalled and went to to the toolbox and tried to reinstall, (made sure Downloader was on for installing apps). The toolbox would not re-install the dot, it just kept shutting down Downloader. Any advice would be appreciated.

OK, two different issues going on here:

  1. It appears Monitor Dot detected that the VPN was offline, but yet you still had an active internet connection because the speed test app verified that the internet was “live”. And when you opened surfshark, it apparently had to “reconnect”. So my question is this - when you saw surfshark “reconnect”, did the dot then turn green? If so, then it looks like Monitor Dot was operating correctly and detected that the VPN went down, but apparently the kill switch did not disconnect the internet feed.

  2. What device were you trying to re-install Monitor Dot on? If it’s the new onn 4k Plus, I just released a new version of Monitor Dot that is designed for Android 14 devices. Please see the last “Installation Notes” at the bottom of this page (www.MonitorDot.com) on how to get the new test version.

Yes when SS reconnected the dot immediately went green.
I’m having this issue on a fire lite device. 1080only.
Now I have no dot and I suspect the kill switch is not protecting me when the VPN goes down.
I’m in a worse place now than I was previously. Is there any work around?
Please Advise…

I can’t help with SurfShark’s kill switch not working - you need to contact them.

With regard to not being able to install Monitor Dot on your firestick - make sure you are using the downloader code “912985” which is the original (older) version that is designed for Firesticks. The new version I just posted recently is designed only for Android/Google TV devices.

There are now two different versions of Monitor Dot:

  • For Amazon Firestick/FireTV devices
  • For Android TV/Google TV devices

Please see the website for the downloader codes for each.

I thank you for all your input.
I used the D/code 912985 and was able to reinstall on my Amazon device.
On that device I will monitor to see if the same problem exists and if so I will proceed to learn how to contact SS concerning the kill switch issue.
I also have a couple of ONN 4k devices from Walmart.
Last night the same problem occurred on one of those devices.
When you say " Please see the website for the downloader codes for each." where would I find a list of Downloader codes on the website?
Would your link (www.MonitorDot.com work for the ONN 4k device (not the pro).
A similar subject: Is there a Downloader code for “Background apps and process list” ? It’s not in the Play Store on the ONN device and I fear not being able to get it back if I uninstall and try to get it back from a search engine. Both ONN devices say an update is needed but of course there is not enough space to update thru the app. the only way I know is to uninstall and reinstall.

The Downloader codes are in the “Installation - Install Method #1” section on my website.

The Downloader code for the new version that will install on your ONN 4k device is “5105331”.

Excuse my lack of computer savvy. “The Downloader codes are in the “Installation - Install Method #1” section on my website.”
Can you provide your website or is there a way to go thru Troy?
