I use something similar and it works great.

The best present my wife got me for herself was a set of headphones and I believe they’re signal instead of Bluetooth cuz I can go at least 20 ft. To the outside.

I recently purchased the new Onn box and installed my apps and everything worked fine. Today no apps would open except SurfShark and You tube. I restarted the device twice. i have plenty of storage too.
Help

Could you give us a little more detail on what apps you have tried, what it said or did when it failed to play?

He needs to disable SurfShark. It’s a setting there—SS only works for 3-4 apps…just like any other VPN. The only way to have a true VPN is to write your own—and then have a testing environment where you test new releases of all the apps you personally use.

For example—if there’s a show that was recently added — then your VPN needs to recognise the header that translate to new show-safe or new show-unsafe…and so on. It’s a task—and IF you ASK, your VPN provider should tell you which apps are - are not supported by its services.

The OP (original post) changed a setting on a sub-menu of SS which disabled Onn. He needs to look at those submenus—and do trial and error.

I beg to differ regarding SS or any VPN unless I misunderstood. All apps open using it as they did using Ipvanish as well. They did on my FS 's and they do on my onn’s. Who exactly writes their own VPN? Unknown sources needs to be enabled of course. Did you actually code your own VPN?

This is your third rant, including a PM to me. You have gotten misinformation regarding VPN effectiveness and what it does. For the third time I will tell you that I have never found an Android app that doesn’t work with my VPN. Please do not post in every single thread you find.

edit…also turn off the surfshark vpn kill switch(at least until you sort things)

I have no idea what you are getting at here. Surfshark has never kept any of my apps from working and I run it on all of my backup streaming devices. I still would like to hear a more detailed explanation from the OP about what is going on.

This is not correct. Just posting this so people don’t think it’s true.

It was my experience. I believe there were transcripts sent and I am glad you feel comfortable with them. That’s what matters afterall.

But I already mentioned to you in a PM that you were misled and I am so sorry that is the case. But just throwing out misinformation and supporting it with some “Transcipts” from a self proclaimed Tech doesn’t make it either true or factual. Pretty easy to leak test vpn tunnels and security these days. Settings are the key for all APPs. As for APP compatability the Dev usually bake that into their APKs so that if it isn’t compatible with your device then it won’t install, although for some that’s more a challenge than a set in stone fact. Bottom line, with independent audits available for any good VPN service I will accept their knowledge and skill set, long before some starter Tech feeding misunderstood info.

Two ways that is true is if you turn off option to use small packets which is on by default. If small packets is off then you may have issues with internet connectivity (or not). I know from trying all settings in past lol. Also some websites and streaming apps don’t allow VPN connections so that is possibilty as well (I can’t remember which app or VPN of operating system) but most operating systems that Surfshark works with you have the setting “Bypass VPN” you can use to bypass VPN for just that app. To say surfshark only works for 3 or 4 apps is misinformation. I can’t even remember which app or 2 was the issue.

If I turn small packets OFF, my device gets literally zero internet. If I run an Analiti speed test, it show 0.00 MBPS. The apps still run, they just can’t access content.

The apps that typically don’t run properly through a VPN are more “verified” apps, from my experience. Again, doesn’t keep the app from loading, just doesn’t connect to content.

We still haven’t heard back from the OP on this question, hopefully we can get some more information and get this solved.

I’ll speak to in relation to surf shark VPN. I had a lot of trouble in the past with SS. I did a ticket by email and got a response they help me change my DNS numbers which corrected some buffing that I was having. By the way I tried those DNS numbers on my never shield and won’t work. I second that you have to use small packets, at least I do on my 4K Maxx. I never have much luck with wire guard, I always use ikev2. I consistently use the kill switch and doesn’t seem to be a problem always worked. My biggest problem with SS right now, is my internet will get disconnected for some reason, I’ll have to turn off the VPN get my streaming connected again, then turn the VPN back on and try to get the streaming connected which may take three to four or five times, one day took 20 times turning the VPN on and off before I got a stream. Once I got a stream I turn this kill switch on and hopefully I got a stream and I usually do. That’s my biggest issue with SS right now, other than that works fine

Yes turning off small packets did the same for me thats why I mentioned it. And yes apps that didnt work would open but not fully or just not play streams. Not common issue and only a couple apps I came across appeared to have issue. Used bypass VPN on them when it did occur.

I fixed my over scan months ago using the tv settings. Everything has been fine since.

Had a similar issue, I was using a 1080p tv and display wasn’t fitting screen, went to settings>display & sound>resolution and set it to 1080p and display fit. It can also be set to auto-switch for best resolution.

My bad, it was kbrick66 with the greyout issue.
