TXRon,

Could you please provide some sage direction in purchasing a new router for a 2,500 sq ft home that would last a few years? I am not tech savvy. Thank You for your assistance.

We all highly value and respect Ronā€™s opinion on tech. Until he gets a chance to respond, I found this article that might start you on the path to deciding what is needed for a 2500 sq ft house. I am a big fan of mesh wifi routers, that have multiple nodes throughout the house to help eliminate dead spots and add ethernet ports closer to the important devices.

Also keep in mind, todayā€™s standard is Wifi6, but in the coming years Wifi7 will become the norm. Streaming devices so far are only Wifi6/6e at best, so a Wifi6 router is still very good.

Whats the budget? If possible I would go wifi-7 for future proofing but cheaper to go wifi-6. My fav brand is Asus for routers.

editā€¦Hereā€™s my fav WIFI-7 Router
If you go wifi-6 I really like the Asus ZEN line of routers and I currently use the ZENwifi ET-12 AXE11000.

What about tp link being under scrutiny because of china??v

Perhaps because of this type of scrutiny, TP-Link has made many efforts to distance itself from its Chinese ownership. TP-Link Systems is an entity based in Irvine, California, and no longer affiliated with the Chinese TP-Link Technologies.

I do not use many tp products but I will say one of my deciding factors to go with asus was they are Taiwanese made. But with that said I do use a few tplink switches etc.

Iā€™m trying to decide between asus and tp link. I have a tplink but itā€™s ten yrs old. I only need for streaming Kodi, stremio etc. phones, tablets , tv. No gaming , any suggestions. Was looking at asus, and the tp link 5400. My archer 5 gets out to my deck and front yard pretty good. And 5ghz works well too

Kinda hard to beat this one.

That is the one Iā€™m looking at. Question, spectrum saying you have to increase speed plan to operate WiFi 6, is that true??

I was lucky I got my Asus from ebay and it hard finding it about 8 months ago.

Thatā€™s the one I use and it reaches outside great.Amazon.com: TP-Link AXE5400 Tri-Band WiFi 6E Router (Archer AXE75)- Gigabit Wireless Internet Router, ax Router for Gaming, VPN Router, OneMesh, WPA3 : Electronics

How many square ft you have Also seeing in reviews 6ghz not great

I have small house 1200 sq. ft. Use 500 gig fiber and wirelessly I get 200 plus outside on 6 ghz

spectrum lies
