There is just no way to explain buffering any better. Stremio being a torrent based app relies on them and the peers connected to them. There is no setup really for that. You see the soucres, different resolutions and the number of peers attached. Once you start to stream you can see even more of that. There is nothing wrong with the pro at all and my VPN speed is fine. If it was the VPN then it begs to be asked why one source streams and another doesn’t. I honestly would never stream anything without a VPN but that’s just the way I feel and most in here as best as I know. I have no throttling, ever.

Peers only apply if you are using p2p and not a debrid service though.

Correct!

Due to the fact that Amazon is starting to block certain third party apps, I have purchased both the pro and plus onn boxes. I figure it’s only a matter of time before my favorite 3rd party apps are no longer available. Setup was no problem.

IF they are offering it in Canada, look for the ONN device called “4K PLUS” it’s price is more like the $53 one and includes VOICE control too. Here in the US, they’ve switched to a BLUE BOX packaging. I own two and they blow away my firesticks performance wise.

They absolutely make the firesticks look silly. They are great for price/performance.

I have both the Firestick 4K Max and the Onn Pro on three of my newer large screen LG TVs. the ONN has a higher download speed than the Firestick, the ONN has more memory than the Firestick, but the Firestick remote has it all over the ONN remote. I don’t have overly large fingers but I can’t type anything on the ONN remote without having to go back and correct what I wrote and if I’m pressing the top of the circle it goes to the side unless I click it exactly at 12:00 high. I like both of them and depending on what I’m going to watch I’ll switch back and forth between the two of them.

You should consider using a mini keyboard. Mine has both a dongle and bluetooth. Unlike the bluetooth on Fire devices, It works perfect and never ever disconnects. The dongle can be used in another device giving you control over two but not at the same time of course. It’s especially good for installing long url’s like kodi addons that never work properly and not being annoyed how much time you wasted typing them.

Maybe consider the Fire Cube 3 for a “different direction” - a big upgrade over both the Firesticks and the ONN devices.

Well. I am also a Canadian who spends winters down south. So I initially had the cheaper version and bought the family 2 a piece over a year ago. Now I have had the 75. one for a year. No issues what so ever. Sold my fire sticks a year ago when I heard they would not work when side loading. you will not have any issues going to the ONN whether you buy the cheap or not.

I have both and neither are buffering

Because the new chip is better. Check out the geek bench scores.

Onn plus is just below the Nvidia Shield. Onn Pro is no where near that.

Benchmark scores mean nothing to me, they are not real world day to day use results, my Pro performance is just fine :+1:

To summarize, Onn boxes are good, Firesticks? Not so much anymore.

They do offer the Pro … I was thinking - from the benchmark data (and the overall sentiment here) that the Plus would be the better option (and that isn’t offered in Canada yet).

On the plus side (no pun intended) - I did resurrect the FS I had that was failing; so I may ride this out until it dies – maybe by then the Plus will be in Canada …

There are three offerered in Canada now and the mid one is priced exactly like the plus and looks like the pro. The Stick, a box about $20 under the pro and the pro. I’ve not looked at the actually printing to see what it is but I can’t imagine them having yet another model . I will look sometime soon to see what it is. I’m pretty sure it has the Plus specs.

If it has the Amlogic S905X5M cpu then it’s the plus.

A very interesting read. Thanks to all for the information.
I too am in Canada. I was having problems with my Firestick 4K Max streaming Prime video. Video would play for 30 seconds then drop to a black screen, but sound continued. I’ll not elaborate, but I concluded that the reason was Amazon had made a change to the 4K Max programming and it would no longer play on my older UHD 3D TV. So while in Walmart, I picked up the basic stick just to try it out. Low and behold, it played Prime video without issue, so a win in that department. For what I need, this is adequate, but with one major flaw, there is NO pause button, so it’s not possible to pause a video for a pee break!! However it proved to me that Amazon HAD changed something that may have been the reason why I could not play videos on a non 4K TV.
Now, what is interesting is within the last couple of weeks, my 4K Max is now working to play Prime video. My guess is a lot of complaints led to an update change.
Overall, I am pleased that Onn tv does have an alternative to Firestick especially if Amazon continue to block sideloaded apps.

Here’s the specs per the WalMart page (for the “Plus”)

Has the 2GB/8GB; but I don’t know if the CPU is the same … (it definitely doesn’t say “S905X5M”)
