After months of “testing” I finally convinced my wife she didn’t need cable.
We use the regular mix of apps but wasn’t happy with IPTV services. I installed a Tablo over the air server and we can stream via their app from that server to any device. This gives us the local channels and a lot more in HD quality OTA.
We use other apps - Netflix, Prime, Apple TV, etc to provide other entertainment.
The only downside has been the stability to the Tablo server. It seems to get confused a few times per week and need to be power cycled. I put an Alexa plug on the device so we can ask Alexa to reset the unit. The reset runs a routine that turns off the unit, waits 15 seconds, and then turns it back on. Much easier than walking out to the garage to cycle the power.

I recently asked tablo if they could get a “beefier” processor/ram and incorporate TVE channels for a better channel assortment. They do have plans in an upgrade just not sure the direction they will take. ![:+1: :+1:](https://troypoint.store/images/emoji/twitter/+1.png?v=12)

I use a 4 tuner gen 4 Tablo, the app has a lot of issues but I haven’t had an issue with the device itself, it has run continuously for a couple months now.
Your problem sounds like a hardware issue to me, you should contact Nuvyyo support.
May I ask where the plug-in came from for a Alexa? Is it an Amazon routine or something from Nuvyyo?
I’ve had a 4th generation Tablo for awhile, maybe a year, iirc.
It seems to be crashing less now than when I first got it, maybe the firmware is better?
My main two issues are that the tuner is not as good as our main TV’s and changing channels is s-l-o-w.
It’s definitely easier than stringing coax to the rest of the house, though. Plus, it does do a good job as a DVR.

The plug is a generic Alexa plug. I connect it to the Alexa app on my iPad and created the routine in the app.

I kinda hate my tablo… I’ve had it for a year but have only been able to use it for 3 months or so… It disconnected from my mesh network and wouldn’t reconnect for the longest… Finally got it to reconnect today after multiple resets, chatting with customer service, a few emails with them, and damn near throwing it out the window. We live outside of San Antonio now so it’s not getting as many channels as we used to… Ugh… Might have to get an IPTV cause I really miss ABC and Good Morning America!

Thanks for that information. Good luck with the Tablo.

I like the tablo but since I got the zapperbox I rarely use the tablo. Yes it’s a bigger investment but it’s honestly the Cadillac of ota. They now have a dvr gateway for whole home solutions. The dvr functions are fantastic, the guide data is great, and it’s next gen ready now. If when the atsc 3.0 becomes official, the tablo will no longer work.

So can the Zapperbox be used to view live ota TV anywhere in your house?
For us, Tablo’s DVR feature isn’t a major priority. Being able to access local channels everywhere in the house is the main thing.

absolutely, but like I said it’s not a cheap investment. depending on how many rooms you would want you would probably want a dual tuner M1 and a client gateway M3. I can also say that out of all the tv tuners I have tried the zapperbox is the most sensitive. It stays locked in where others such as sling, roku tv, and tablo do not.
It would be awesome if zapperbox would come up with an app though.

I’ve recently “cut the cord” and am really enjoying the savings (over $200/mth!). However, I do miss local channels, easily recording shows, and FWD/Rewind. I know that Tablo offers these features. The problem is that where I live in So. Calif., I get absolutely NO antenna reception.
Does anyone know if Tablo ONLY works with antenna reception and, if so, is there another device that works with streaming devices?
I’m new to being a Troypoint Patron. So if this is in the wrong section, please let me know where I should post this.
Thanks!
Clem
Tablo only works with an over the air antenna.
Search on Troypoint for IPTV. Most of those will get you the channels you want. It requires an IPTV subscription and a player like Tivimate.
Alternatively you could subscribe to YouTube TV and get everything local but it’s pricey.

Thanks for the quick response, Larry! I figured that’s how it would work.
