I haven’t gotten any update. I’m still at 7.2.4.2

You must have gotten an update otherwise you wouldn’t have the protected package warning. Don’t know what to tell ya.

This is from @Randath a founding member.

So two FireTV Cube second generation at OS7.2.4.2 will not allow the block commands. I get “Security exception cannot disable a protected package” on both. It does clear the downloaded update. Not sure if it will keep trying to download that update or not.

So he can clear any pending updates but not block them from downloading.

I know Troy reported that none of the fixes were working on the Fire Cube. Wolf Launcher still working on 7.2.4.2. TechDr Update Blocker gives error message on the two blocks but does clear the download. Tried TechDr method to block with Adguard but I run IPVanish so his solution was a No Go. I did have the Debloat Tool but had not enabled the “Break System Updates” for some stupid reason. With version 7.2.4.2 it clears the checkmarks off those items if I try to run them. Fire Cube has some different logic going on for some reason. Next step is to check Parental Controls on the Asus Router.

Wolf Launcher still working on my 4KMax 7.2.5.5

I see some are blocking Amazon Updates using NetGuard to block internet access for the updater. Not sure how this works but maybe the more tech savvy can jump in with details.

With NetGuard you have 2 choices:

1- you can block internet only for system update apps:

com.amazon.device.software.ota
com.amazon.device.software.ota.override
com.amazon.tv.forcedotaupdater.v2

2 - you can completely block the internet except for the apps you use and they need the internet

I tried using OpenDNS on a Netgear modem router with the com.amazon.device.software.ota com.amazon.device.software.ota.override and com.amazon.tv.forcedotaupdater.v2 strings. But no luck so far. Received invalid domain. I not sure I know how to use OpenDNS yet. Need to read up on it more.

With netguard you can basically lock it all down but you need to configure it for system apps because that is off by default with a higher learning curve. I use it on my phone to block background data from using my data due to a 1gb plan. When home I allow wifi access which doesnt burn my data. Different methods are out there but you can be assured they will look to circumvent any blocks.

I think with NetGuard you can not use a VPN. It acts like one.

Yes, that is correct, both NetGuard and Adguard are virtual-VPN’s that conflict/interfere with a regular VPN.

Anybody here of a new fix to Block Amazon updates on a firestick 4k os 6.2.8.1?
I tried the ADB commands and Techdoctoruk debloat app.
I have not read about any new ones in the last four or five days.
Still hoping someone comes up with a permanent block.

So far nothing. With the new "protected package " coding I think we’re stuck with it. I’m trying to find a way to get my hands on one of those cheap Onn boxes. If nothing in the next month or two I may finally give up on my Firestick 4KMax and Firesticks period. After over 7 years of marriage it may be time for a divorce.

Are they not available in Mexico? Is there a restriction to have it shipped from Walmart? Our local Walmart just restocked.

Nope. Not available here. Even though it’s wally world they don’t have a lot of stuff that is carried in the U.S. and Canada. It isn’t even an option to order it. I can order a lot of Amazon stuff but like the Keen Sandals I bought, they’re $100US but by the time I get them and pay import fees and taxes they cost me $144.

How is it to send a package from USA to mexico?

I’m waiting for a package that a relative sent Nov 28, '21. Nothing yet and in fact we think it’s lost. So in short, not good, but I thank you for the thought.

Good news @MCat,tech doctor uk just dropped new video on you tube to erase updates. Super easy app to download and I tried it on my wifes 2nd gen firecube and it worked like a charm erasing an update that was ready to install. Also works with vpn!

Yes I am just watching that now. It was a toolbox that we were expecting that would replace the need to use ADB.

Just installed it. Did not have a download to test it out on.
