The 4k stick if sitting on 6.2.8.1 as mine is wants to download and install and update, I stopped it for now before using ADB and this time using the new Blocker app that worked just fine.

@Miki i installed an on/off switch on my Firestick 4k.

I wanted to try your shut down process without putting wear on my micro usb connections.
What I found is if I let the Firestick 4K go to sleep mode, when I restart it, there is no updated down load waiting to install. But every time I shut the Firestick 4k off by tuning off the power, the next time I turned it on a update was down loaded waiting to be installed. I then would run the ADB command pm clear com.amazon.device.software.ota to remove it. Did you ever notice this or is it just a coincidence?

Cool switch, great idea. I never unplug my stick. I use a power bar and shut the power off that way. Sounds like your update is downloading during your reboot as once power is shut off to the stick there isn’t any active internet connection. This is day 1 without any update blocker on my stick so I’ll watch out to see if I have any startup issues. I’ll let ya know.

Sounds about right. I went to the check update folder right after starting. I can see the update downloading bar expanding.

Ya Amazon usually starts to download the updates during the bootup. There wasn’t any new updates for me this morning and oddly my stick is still 7.2.5.5 Now I’m wondering why and if that’s the case can I go back to using Wolf? Oh well, one thing at a time.

I never left Wolf on my Max using 7.2.5.5. I don’t use it on the 4k, never have. The new blocker tool kit is great to easily not even bother typing in the command to remove the pending update. The added option to remove it and reboot is great for me because the Max has always needed to be rebooted at times because mine in finicky. I need to reboot for the wifi speed and even for my iPad fire remote to find it again at times since it seems to disappear.

I should have sent this back to Amazon in the first 30 days as I do believe it’s just not working properly but it’s way too late now. I never had such issues on my 4k.

Tried the first method multiple times and did not work. Will try the next one today. Don’t have much confidence since reading the replies here. Firestick 4K. 6.2.8.1

If your Firestick 4K is at OS 6.2.8.1 the only thing that worked for me was to be able to erase the pending update before restarting.

Tried the second method and it did not work also. Is there suppose to be spaces in the commands? It looks in the video that there are. I did put spaces between some letters and symbols. If there are not spaces, I can try again. Thanks for the information in advance. Glenn

in the following I have depicted a space like this ^
so remove the ^ and leave a space
pm^clear^com.amazon.device.software.ota

Hope that helps

Here is what I typed for the first: pm disable–user --0 com.amazon.device.software.ota.override with a space between pm and disable, space between user and --0 and a space between 0 and com

Similar spaces in the second command: space between pm and disable, space between user and --0 and a space between 0 and com

Correct? Thanks Miki

Well those are the commands to block updates. If your system has already updated to 6.2.8.1 they will have no affect. The command I gave you clears any “pending” update that has been downloaded and not yet been installed. You will find this in settings>My Fire TV>about>and scrolling down to the bottom if there is a pending update it will say “install update”, and if you don’t want to then you either run the TDUK toolbox or in your Remote ADB Shell you run that single line command I gave.

The easiest way is to run the turnkey solution of the one click, well one click to remove or the second option to remove and reboot. It works just fine. Everything still works fine on 6.2.8.1 although I have not bothered with a launcher on that one. I only have it on my Max.

Thanks Miki, all seems to be working ok at this point. I don’t have any problems with steaming with the way things are setup.

Ya you shouldn’t. I’m on my Max with 7.2.5.5 and don’t have any issues. Of course it’s now back to the Amazon launcher and annoying Amazon crap.

@ miki, the more I read and try to understand all this, the more confused I get…my FS is running os v6.2.8.1(NS6281/4812), and I have had the techdoctoruk debloat tool installed for as long as I can remember. I have been using the wolf launcher and most of my apps are on a usb (a student of Troypoint for a couple of yrs). I’ve never had issues, nor have I ever had a “new update ready” notice from amazon. According to the recent tduk info, his app wont work on this version. How to know if I’m “safe”???

@Rwc

Safe from what? Updates? To be fair you are never save unless you root which you cant. You will probably start seeing update after reboot protocols.

The new teckdoc app seems to be working sorta, and try troys video.

Thx…was able to get the ‘wiper’ to work, but not the ‘blocker’. Will see how long this keeps my launcher active. Appreciate your response
