Yep. This is the way.
I spent $50 on AliExpress & got an Amlogic S905X4 Android 11 box 4GB ram, 64gb storage, Gigabit ethernet, USB 3.0, SDcard port & learning remote. Couldn’t be happier. My FireStick looked like an octopus with y-cable, usb hub, flash drive, ethernet adapter, etc

I got the $30 Dyna Link dongle a few years ago based on Troy’s review. I also have every FS and Cube and the Dyna is my goto main media device. As found in the TP review it has double the download speed of any Fire device. I can barely use any of the Fire devices because too slow and buffering.

I run vpn at the router, that has always seemed to block updates (and access to prime which I don’t mind)
Router = WRT32X
DD-WRT firmware w/PBR/QoS
PIA vpn client with killswitch and watchdog scripts
Big learning curve though to get to work and be rock solid
Continuing the discussion from How to Block Amazon Fire TV Updates:
This is as far as I got using Troy’s info on the debloater tool… How do I proceed from here.
I do not know how to re-enable USB debugging in the fire TV settings., Hi I’m a 76 year old senior trying his best to keep up with these things but I always seem to run into something that will keep me from continuing on things that Troy tells us to do…

my new gen3 firestick blocks any attempt at ‘downloader’ install… says downloading not supported at this time… locked into Amazon Appstore !!!
I had allowed it to do latest updates… doh… I didn’t know

You can accomplish this in various ways. Log into your Amazon account in a web browser on your phone and then find the downloader by searching, click on downloader, it’s free, and it will download to your account then go into the settings on your firestick and sync your account, it will then appear in your apps, or you can download it to your android phone, get apps2fire and transfer it to your stick. Sounds like you’re trying to download an apk using a browser that doesn’t support apk downloads. When using apps2fire be sure you have the sticks IP address written down so you can enter it in the app.

Focus on getting downloader. Once you have that on your stick you can get pretty much any apk and install it. ES File Explorer will also allow you to install the APK.
apps2fire and EFT (easy fire tools) are great apps I keep on my phone at all times. Not to difficult to use and served me well. Using the Amazon log in route was something I recently learned after the app store wouldn’t let me download as it said I didn’t have a valid billing address. Always ways to get what you want.
Have fun and STREAM ON.

What’s wrong with your stick? How is it screwed up?
@Rwc
Easy on the fliters. Lol.
A factory reset should fix any errors.

I have religiously followed all troypoint instructions since getting this stick, and her quote “Dammed if Amazon is gonna control how I watch MY tv!!” Just picked up onn

Well tbh I use the Silk browser then go to the network .com that runs our soap and go to “daytime” find our soap and click on it. We watch every episode the day it comes out. Not live but that doesn’t matter to us.

Yea, Ive been using silk/ustvgo/foxnewslive, for her, think I may set her up with a link to that for her soaps, also…gotta keep it simple tho. Weve got tablo for local, but for some reason it disappeared also - I’ll have more time to research whats going on when I get home

I have 4 or 5 Fire Tv Stick 4K’s in a drawer that have never been out of the box. Can I use your instructions to block updates on these never used devices? Thank you.

Yes but you have to make sure you don’t “completely” update. At first there will be a ton of updates some you can’t stop. But after the initial system and component update don’t update but get downloader app and aVPN and get the tools you need, either by installing Troy’s RAI or going to techdoctoruk and getting the tools. If you install the updates to 7.2.7.3 then you won’t be able to block updates. There are a couple of routes you can go.

Troy’s Rapid App Installer has some tools you can use like the ADB Shell so you can run shell commands to block updates or you can go to techdoctoruk and get the debloater tool, but please read all the info so you understand what you’re blocking.
