This tutorial will show you How to Install Aptoide TV on Firestick, Fire TV, and Android TV/Google TV Devices. Aptoide TV is an extremely popular 3rd Party App Store that works as an alternative to the Google Play Store. Because the Google Play Store is not available on Firestick and Fire TV devices, many are…

Hi Forumites,

I’m reaching out to learn a few things about installing apps from the Aptoide store onto an Nvidia Shield Pro, namely, out of the two options to open it that I’ve been given (Package Installer/ES File Explorer) which one should I choose, or doesn’t it matter ultimately?

My second question is about the next stage of installation which Google Play Protect flags up as an Unsafe App.

The message underneath this reads:

This app was built for an older version of Android and doesn’t include the latest privacy protections.

Installing this app may put your device at risk.

Is this something that I can ignore and therefore I can go ahead with installing it or do I need to heed the warning?

Any and all advice that comes my way about my query would be greatly appreciated.

To start I’m not sure what SBS stands for in your post title. Secondly it doesn’t matter whether you use your native Package installer or a third party app like a file explorer or even an internet browser, they all will activate the APK to install the app if coded to do so. Now for your final question, when presented with that warning I would look at another App store and see if there is a newer release of the app you want, or you could simply install it and then update it if an update option is given.

Hello Miki,

Thank you for your prompt reply. It’s much appreciated.

My apologies for the confusion caused about the app that I was referring to.

SBS On Demand is simply an Australian website that you can stream content on.

For quite some time now, my VPN would allow me to view the content without a problem.

However, this has recently become problematic as the website owners have cracked down on VPN usage to circumvent the region restrictions that are present on the website itself.

I will make use of the advice you’ve provided and download and update the app accordingly.

Ahh ok tx @Sean2 . I am not familiar with that site but do wonder if things like an encrypted DNS in combination with a VPN might help you circumvent geo restrictions. TDUK DNS Switcher might help you.

Thank you again for getting back to me and for providing me with some very useful information to help with my attempts to use the aforementioned website/app once more.

As I mentioned, I was watching SBS content on the website on my Mac without a problem for quite some time using IP Vanish.

Then suddenly a message kept on popping up saying that an adblocker had been detected. I removed any potential problem extensions that I had on the web browser that I was using just to be sure but alas it was still telling me that an adblocker was present.

That’s when I turned to my Android device which led me to posting on the Troypoint forum after having tried installing an app version of the website on the Aptoide TV store.

I will certainly look into TDUK’s new piece of software as it looks like it’ll be just the ticket to solving the problem outright.

One suggestion I will make, if you don’t mind, is to give as much info as you can. For instance, if you are using Mac and trying to get info for it’s use then please include that in your posts. Mac is an entirely different creature than droid and has it’s own app compatibility issues. I know posts can get lengthy, at times, but giving the forum readers as much info as you can, will give them the opportunity to focus their answers or research to better provide you the assistance you seak. By the way, welcome to TP and please don’t be afraid to ask for help. Lots of great ppl here willing to guide you along your journey.

Ok, will do.

Thanks for the heads up.

By the way, has TDUK’s app been approved on the App Store by any chance?

What browser are you using?
Try Brave Browser builtin ad blocker may help you

Yes his app is on the Playstore.

Ok I was able to go to SBS On Demand and watch live content. I set my Proton VPN to Sydney and turned off my Ad Blocker. Now my first attempt it asked me to log into my account, then I chose another live channel and it started playing.

Hi MikeN,

Thanks for the reply and information you’ve provided. It’s much appreciated.

I never thought of trying Brave browser but I’ll definitely give it whirl based on your suggestion.

It appears to be website specific from what I can tell as the 9Now website, which is also geo restricted to Australia, doesn’t pose me with the same problems as SBS On Demand.

My dilemma with the website began after 21st September. Before that, I had zero issues and I definitely didn’t change anything on the computer that I use to cause this pesky problem.

Anyway, I’ll get onto downloading Brave and go from there. Thanks again.

Thank you for checking this out for me.

I’ve now installed the SBS On Demand app that was available on the Aptoide TV store onto my Shield and it works a treat.

I’ll also give the Brave browser a try on the Mac as was suggested by MikeN as I’d like to get it working on the computer as well.

I’m posting a further update in relation to MikeN’s suggestion to use the Brave browser in conjunction with a VPN.

This has also worked a treat so thank you Mike for providing me with that invaluable advice.
