I am not sure why they would push to use a vpn but maybe a vested interest.
I also think herd mentality plays apart in what people tend to do.
They are great if you are using a public network, torrenting or want to access geo blocked content.
Also if your isp blocks access to content then definitely worth using.
But if you use the full encryption measures on a VPN, it will slow your speed down.
I would sooner have one when I need it but I rarely use one.
Also it depends on what jurisdiction and piracy laws you live under plays a factor.
Also paranoia with some I guess.

Yes I’ve been part of a very small minority that does not advocate the need for VPN use here for years. Herd mentality and paranoia run very strong here. But to each his own I guess
I have helped about a dozen or more friends, relatives set up their Kodi+rd, I never advised them to use a VPN, for years now not one had any problems, do I use a VPN…yes, do I think I need one, answer no, when my VPN runs out I will not renew it, in fact any person I know that has Kodi+Rd or an app +rd none of which use a VPN, never had any problems, it would be interesting to find out how many people without a VPN that use Rd ever had any problems with their ISP. Then we would know if VPN is of any use

Sorry but I think advocating for or against a VPN based upon one single app that we know has encrypted servers, does not do anyone’s security justice. I know there are those who never use a VPN and I respect anyone’s freedom to choose, but as I’ve stated many times, having had my own Torrent site and knowing the bad players that are out there, I will never connect to the internet without one. I have absolutely never had any issues with RD or PM with my VPN active. No speed loss or connection issues at all.

I have been using RD for about 9 years and never used a vpn.
Never had any issues with three different ISP’s in that time.
I don’t see why you would need one as the data is encrypted, no need to encrypt it again.
The only time I use one is for blocked content or p2p downloads.
I think governments have more to worry about than who is connecting to a file hosting service.

The only reason I leave a VPN running isn’t for those connections I know that are safe with encryption, but for those that aren’t. No need to do a lot of work and clicks when switching between encrypted and unencrypted streams. Leaving it running has no affect on RD or PM connections so why not. I also have never had issues with ISPs or anyone else for that matter. I don’t mind being safe.

Thing is @Miki , not needing a VPN is a reduced expense for many of us. I absolutely hate paying for things I just don’t need. Hope you are doing well my friend!
Thank you, the only person I know that got a letter from isp, downloaded a movie from a torrent site, I stay clear of any torrent sites or torrent downloads, I feel there should be more information provided about this, what are risks levels, we learn by mistakes, would be good to hear from people that got letters from their ISP what set up they were using, so others do not make same mistake, for example myself I do not use my streaming box to Access the Internet, I use rd, so is this a low risk, I believe so. However there are high risk set ups which could be disclosed, so that person can make their own decision as to use a VPN or not

I am well tx @MarkxG . As you know I don’t find it to be an unnecessary expense. Quite the contrary. Have a good weekend my friend. I should be honest and correct my statement a bit. As far as I know I’m ok. Phone conference late Monday afternoon to get the results. Fingers crossed

You are so right, I had VPN for about 5 years and always felt like it was a waste of money especially when I see lots of people without it never experience any problems.

I had the same thing happen to me years ago when downloading from a torrent site. Got a warning letter from Comcast/Xfinity.
I WAS using a VPN. So I’m kinda afraid of downloading or using kodi to watch video files-even with real debrid. Just wanted to share my experience with folks

Watching content in with Kodi + RD is no different to using RD with any other VOD app if your are doing that.
The data is encrypted and your isp can only see you have connected to a server not what that data actually is that you are accessing.

Just wanting to clear up what you are saying does not scare people from watching KODI. If you are downloading torrents without RD or a VPN yes you will probably get an email/letter from your ISP. If you are watching KODI with Real Debrid you definetely will not. Those 2 are totally different and you do NOT need a VPN to stream with KODI and RD
