Anybody else no longer able to hide all of Amazon’s junk app icons on the firestick home page? Why oh why does Amazon keep shooting itself in the foot with its streaming devices?

I think it’s due to the fact that they want you to use legitimate streaming services and not illegal ones lol

TDUK did a video about it. You can disable some of them but no longer hide them.

Answer is pretty simple if you think about it.
It’s advertising revenue for Amazon. If you sign up for a service on Amazon they probably receive a commission monthly. I just ignore them. I move my apps to the front and ignore the rest. You can install a custom launcher but Amazon is good at disabling them with updates…

My question is why are people still using fire sticks/fire cubes when ONN boxes are more reliable, cheaper and you don’t have to deal with the intrusive Amazon crap. I’ve slowly dumped all my Amazon junk over a year ago and never looked back…just my observation/opinion.

I’m with you “richibe165”. I have COMPLETELY given up on Fire Stick.
I tried , faithfully , to give ALL the Fire Sticks, all models and all generations, a fair, in my mind, chance!
I am now using a 4K Pro ONN box(in Canada).
ALL good.

I still use Firesticks but have relegated them to secondary devices to play with, you can still use ADB from a remote device, updates with storage still sucks.

I too use a Onn 4k Pro as my primary device and in the bedroom a Onn 4k box, while I have a Google TV Onn I am using the Android TV version there.

As much as I dislike what Amazon has turned Firesticks into, the Max is still the most powerful, super portable device out there imo. I use my Max only for travel, and it seems to very good for that purpose. The rest of my devices are all Android TV based, as I definitely prefer that for use throughout my house.

I would never own any onn electronics, they are the low of the low of electronics. The way i have my firestick set up, I have never had any problems with them. matter of fact I have one that’s 6 years old and will beat any onn’s piece of junk. The problem when it comes to firestick is operator error.

They both have good and bad features, but I agree my 4K max leaves my ONN box for dead when it comes to speed

The same with my 2nd Gen Cube and the Shield Pro. It’s no contest for the ONN Pro.

LOL. ONN blows the sticks away. Every day

And this is why years ago I blocked system updates on all my Amazon devices and still have custom launchers on all of them. Most of these “security” updates on any type of device are just a way to lock you down more.

Hey, no problem, throw your Firesticks away.

I spent a lot of time with UNIX, a couple things I lived by in those days, don’t get in to wars about which flavor of UNIX was best or which shell, whether vi was better than emacs because it’s largely a waste of time.

So your opinion is as valid as anybody else’s, pay me the same respect.

How do you do that, and does it still work?

There was a point of no return date with Firesticks, that after the update happened, you could never go back and block future updates. Some were proactive enough, like Jayhawk, to do that and able to keep the ability to customize the sticks permanently. Still, anything you have to do that for, just isn’t worth it imo. Too many other and better options now.

I mean I still use my Shield as my primary. Fire sticks are just for travel or occasional bedroom watching. No sense in just throwing out old devices if they still get the job done.

I removed the Amazon launcher altogether (got it backed up) from my firesticks and cube and use a third party launcher.

If you don’t own any ONN products then I think it’s safe to say you shouldn’t criticize them unduly. If you did have one you might be surprised and your opinions may change.
