I believe the SK1 is still $209 at the Mini PC TV Box Store. It has the capability for 8 GBs of RAM but needs a software update through Amlogic first. Per Nick’s review at TV Box Stop, it has permissions needed to play Net Flix in 1080p resolution. No other box has that capability except Amazon FireCube. Like PapaS, I bought the SK1 this past summer and it is an absolute beast for streaming.

Tx @sim_bill . I was set to pull the pllug and get one this week but with my new Cancer diagnosis I will have to save my money to be able to travel for treatments and to see the Drs. If both you and @PapaS think this thing is awesome then that’s good enough for me.

Hang in there Miki. Hope you get better quickly.

It isn’t a matter of need, it’s a matter of learning. At least for me it would have been.

And thanks @sim_bill well wishes are much appreciated.

learning what? i’m still not understanding but respect peep’s personal desire.
not one box that i own except my shield cost over 50US and play and record 4k video flawlessly w a 1TB usb 3.0 drive…too each his own and i think it’s the mental satisfaction that drives that…lol…totally cool and my shield is sitting on my hobby shelf.ohhh almost forgot my buzzkill box is somewhere just don’t know where? that’s what i think of them

learning what? Really? I’m interested in a box with the least amount of constraints. One with a good amount of RAM. One even with a root switch. One that I can do so much without restraints or limits. Either way it doesn’t matter, if I can afford it then I’ll get it as it presents a learning challenge and opportunity, similiar to My Shield Pro, but hopefully more. If it’s just about watching vids and not wanting anything more, not even knowing anything about what or how to get the best quality experience out of my purchase, then I’d buy a lowly Onn Pro. Or even go back to the Firesticks. For me there is much more to this hobby, and I thoroughly enjoy the learning.

Well said @Miki. Totally agree.

Learning new things is part of life, irrespective of age. :grinning:

It keeps the mind active and a great sense of achievement, when one succeeds in learning a new project or skill.

I’m with you on this. I don’t get it. Been using T95Z Plus Boxes for years and more recently the ONN Pro. No idea why people spend hundreds on boxes if they are only streaming. And don’t get me started on certified boxes. Who needs one? I get everything I want on KODI and my IPTV Service. Im not a gamer. And @Miki please don’t call the ONN box “lowly”it’s a tremendous box as many here agree

Sorry @MarkxG but lowly it is. I call it as I see, it the same as you, and please don’t say I’m only streaming. But this is not the discussion I want to have. I simply mentioned that I am interested in the SK1 as I wish to learn about it and it’s capabilities and expand my horizons and if I want to do that and have the money to do so, it’s my business and noone elses. Some just want to drive an F1, and others, like myself, would love to know the intricacies of it’s capabilities and how the tech accomplishes what appears to some, to be magic.
Have a nice night everyone.

Understood Miki. I just want to watch movies and TV Shows and Sports and News and whatever works with good quality I’m happy with. I understand others want to experiment more. Been doing this for a long time. Different strokes for different folks. Hope you tackle your health issues

All good @MarkxG. We all do this hobby for different reasons and with different outlooks. As long as we each get what we want that’s all that matters. Have a good night.

Miki, so sorry to hear about your cancer diagnosis. Depending on the type of cancer sometimes they can do amazing stuff to rid the body of it. I wish you the best of luck and hang in there, never give up.

Thank you for your well wishes. The amazing stuff would be helpful if I could even get in to see a specialist. Our health system here is near collapse and ppl are dying before they can get treatment. Entire emergency wards have to close for hours or days on end, because they don’t have staff.
Have a good day my friend.

Cross the border to the USA?

@Miki Get well soon and all my prayers are with you. I completely understand your reasoning to buy this box or any box and I too view this as a hobby and learning exp. Years back I too had a medical setback and its almost like a miracle when I stumbled upon Troypoint and firestick hacking to help keep my mind busy…with a hobby of sorts and not dwelling on my medical issues. I considered it a therapy back then and I enjoyed helping others as well. Fast forward to today and yes I still have the medical issue but its under control and the hobby that got me through it hasn’t gone but only grew larger .
Everyone has a way of dealing with life issues but idle time is not the way out. Miki keep up the good work and “onward through the fog” you can make it and if android boxes is what helps…full speed my friend.

I would have to pay full medical expenses and not sure I can afford that. I’d have to rent a car, get a new Passport, pay for gas, food and accomodations. It isn’t feasible, but tx for the suggestion.

Tx @TXRon you are not only an asset to the Insider but to your friends and family as well. Tx for reminding me that we can adapt to whatever life throws at us and win. My Wife is 15 yrs Cancer free, proof enough. Just need to maintain a positive outlook. My Insider family and this hobby both help me to maintain an upbeat attitude and stay sane. Again, thank you.
