I just finished updating several Onns including Pros, 4k 1st gen Android TV and 4k 2nd gen Google TV and all went smoothly with no problems. All already had Projectivy installed so maybe that is it. I checked and I can still easily toggle Projectivy off and on.

I expected the Pro to get this update, but it is a nice surprise to see them still supporting the original 4k Android TV version. Really astounding support for a $20 device.

interesting, the kinhank G1 (update to Android tv 14) had no issues with projectivy loading from boot or home button. I haven’t updated the 4k pro yet.

@ScoobyDoosSpots did you have USB storage on any, particularly the Onn 4k Android TV box.

My continuing adventure… Formated the USB to FAT32, drive was seen by the 4k box, only allow external storage as an option it did format, tried it but the drive won’t mount.

So I wanted to look around the file system and was going to use ā€œSend to TVā€ app to pass MiXplorer to the Onn 4k Android TV, it failed to transfer, the default storage is on the external storage but I can’t change it from the app to storage on internal file system!

This would explain why it won’t mount too. I did manage to get MiXplorer to the device using ATVTools but so far, doesn’t look good.

My normal stance on these upgrades is to wait and let others feel the pain until all the bugs are solved, but this time I decided to wade in… Oops.

Going to reformat the USB and try again… which is a true sign of insanity, doing the same thing over… but I never claimed to be sane.

Not at all… That actually does help, thanks for replying!

I gave up and did a factory reset which did fix the file system, to lazy to setup all of it today. USB still doesn’t work, fails the format in Android TV but formats in Linux, going to try a different drive. Thank you all for letting me whine :slightly_smiling_face:.

My last bit for the thread, my Onn 4k with Google TV updated on its own, the storage seems to have failed too.

I have not worked on the Onn 4K w/Google TV beyond a reboot, here is the summary though:

Onn 4K Android TV box (2021/2) USB storage failed after upgrade to Android 14 (32G Samsung stick) using Mays powered hub with Ethernet dongle which still works.

Onn 4K w/Google TV box (2023) USB storage failed after upgrade to Android 14 (32G SanDisk) using OTG cable for USB.

Chromecast w/Google TV (2024) upgraded with no issues (64G Samsung stick) using Acer powered hub with Ethernet dongle which still works.

Onn 4K Pro, upgrade with minor issues mostly fixed with a reboot.

Hope a solution is coming from the community, Troypoint or others out there, if you see a solution or discussion please DM me or post.

I’m still sitting at 12. Many times I prefer to not get updates unless there is something beneficial to me. Why? Too many years in another lifetime in systems programming and with every bug fixed, 5 more are introduced or loss of something you enjoyed. I still say ā€œIf it ain’t broke, don’t fix itā€

Sorry I have never needed or used external storage on any of my boxes. I don’t need to record anything and the ONN 4K Pro has way more storage than I’ll ever need for apps. Hopefully someone can help you out

So just thought I would mention that after the upgrade I notice ALL the micro jitters that would sometimes be noticeable and even annoying are completely gone in Kodi just make sure you go to Player - Settings and have both Allow hardware acceleration - MediaCodec (Surface) and Allow Hardware acceleration - MediaCodec both enabled. Works for both live and cached content jitter free now. I used to have to toggle the Surface option off for live in Kodi before and off for cached for best results. Leave both on now it works much better.

Interesting…Been using KODI for almost a decade on several different boxes currently the ONN 4K Pro and have no idea of these ā€œMicro Jittersā€ you speak of. But glad you sorted it out

Until now it happened on every ONN box and to lesser degree firesticks as well. The problem would usually be worse on movies as it would get worse every 15 minutes. My wife doesn’t notice it and for the longest I thought it was just the video itself. Others have commented in the past with various work arounds. I notice it as I am very visually aware of frame loss. Also VPN speeds are better on device. I think the new android 14 has fixed some bottlenecking issues in the device itself.

Some people are more susceptible to seeing it than others.
The same with 24fps juddder seen on OLED TVs when not using image motion smoothing processing.

@MarkxG , my 4 k Pro is working fine too and as you mentioned has plenty of storage.

So I was a bit pissed at Onn devices because of the storage issues and my mail had the Onn 4k Plus video from Troy, it annoyed me so much I bought one, some people never learn! But the storage is more than adequate.

I like giving away devices to friends so…:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
