Ok i guess that may be why. Wonder why they made the change? Unless people complained there is no “power on” light…that wont go off lol.

For my fellow Onn 4K Pro owners, have you ever had to update the remote? I keep seeing a message flash in the upper right corner when I’m in my home screen. It says “Update Remote” and it says to long press the Home button and follow the instructions, but I long press the Home button… and nothing happens. I went into my Onn remote settings and there is no mention of a required update. Has anyone seen this message and have you ever successfully updated the remote?

Yes got the update today.
Hit the settings button. The update message should be there as well if you didnt update before.

I have tried for almost 3 months to update the remote. Have not successfully done it yet. Can’t figure out what the issue is
You just click the update. Did mine a few days ago.
I have clicked it and it does nothing. The next day, the notification pops up again. Can’t figure out why it does nothing
Not sure what is going on then. Maybe tell it to forget it and re add it. But if it’s working okay then I wouldn’t be too concerned.

I was doing the obvious - checking my Onn settings and the small menu in the top corner of my home page which is Projectivity launcher. Nothing. But JPM69 mentioned the Settings button. I thought, what button on the remote is the Settings button? So I pressed a button I thought might be the one he’s talking about - which is the button near the top, to the right of the microphone button, and sure enough a different small menu opened up and there it was! The prompt to update the remote. Done! I love that I continue to learn new things. Thanks, JPM69! Hopefully any of you who were in the dark like me will now discover this too!

I bought a Canadian version and installed it then added the side load apps with same results as Troy’s video. Remote had no backlight or extra button. Apps, box, and instructions were bilingual Canadian. Cost was CAD 75 + tax no tarriff.
Wonder if it is Geo locked to Canada?

I am sure it is not since I get all the US, UK, etc TV channels. Very happy and so is my wife who wanted Hallmark, Food, and MSNBC.
The star button top right has multiple preset options and I used Surfshark for two days until I configured it for source change. It now works the same as our BuzzTV top right button and allows easier changes between fibeTV and IPTV without changing HDMI plugs.
A problem that seems to be developing is the responsiveness of the OK button sometimes 6 clicks for one action. Originally every remote action was quick and correct. Funny experience with the voice feature. Listening to Troy’s video, my ONN box was responding to every instruction until I turned it off at the box and used the remote mic button or stopped the video. Also, Kodi did not work as well with voice and seemed to have an alternate approach to voice instructions. I do not type well and voice-assisted data entry was a big help except when it wasn’t.

on my ONN there is a settings option for auto shut off of TV and ONN but it does not shut off voice features. The four white lights are only on during activity and the red lights are always on if the switch is off. Same as Nest speakers.
My new ONNTV 4k Plus allowed me to add additional storage with a C otg cable and a 64 GB san disc flash drive. No problem.
