Here’s an interesting bu…“feature”.
Installed my new 4k pro, all went smooth except for one app- the Silicon Dust HDHomeRun (OTA to IP converter/dvr), abbreviated here HDHR.
Old 4k ONN box: connected wirelessly to Network x, VPN off
New 4k Pro box: connected wireless to same network, also VPN off
HDHR installed on 4k Pro (although with same issue as Analiti, needed to open Google Play Store directly to find it). HDHR running flawlessly on the older 4k ONN box.
HDHR app on 4k Pro CANNOT FIND the HDHR hardware on the network !!?
Uninstall/reinstall- no joy.
Solution- use a wired (10/100) connection to the 4k Pro, HDHR hardware found by 4k Pro and app works.
Downside- Internet Speed Test went from 450/200 down/up to 98/96 down/up, later on to 54/97… Yeah, yeah, I know, still totally adequate- but it does offend my geek sensibilities.
And it gets even more bizarre, although probably due to the Internet Speed Test app- when I connect Surfshark, the reported internet speed is 187/189 (down/up. From a 100 MBps port- uh huh, sure,
So WTF does HDHR work with a wireless connection on the old 4k box but not on the 4k Pro box? Inquiring minds would like to know. Film at 11…
UPDATE 1
(1) Got HDHR working with WiFi, but had to use my WiFi-5 wireless router (directly inside the Cox Modem). The issue was that when I connected to the WiFi-6 router (used as an access point), the HDHR registered on the WiFi 6 device with a different IP address (192.168.1.xxx) than it did on the (built into modem) Wifi-5 router (192.168.0.xxx). However, that still doesn’t explain why the older 4k ONN device with HDHR is perfectly happy connected to the WiFi-6 router.
(2) The “Internet Speed Test” app Troy used gets…err…“confused”. Other Internet speed test apps give values in the 70-80 MBps range consistently.
