From a nondeveloper…A fork is just a copy/altered version of kodi that developers make.

Troy has his Fork available in the Toolbox. He used to have alterations but it is pretty much a copy of kodi nowadays.

Some make them so you can test out things without needing to use your kodi. Others use them and have bulids pre-installed. Probably other reasons i am not thinking of too.

One difference is you can have troys fork versions 21.2 and 21.1 and 20.5 all downloaded at the same time. You can only have1 official kodi on your device at one time.

I usually keep a fork available to test out a new build or try to replicate a problem someone is having.

Sorry for the confusion. By “Fresh” Install I meant I don’t delete data, or KODI. I go into the Toolbox and Install KODI. That wipes whatever Builds/Addons I previously had and gives me a Fresh (clean) version of KODI

Thanks for the explanation…I think I’ll stay away from that since I just got out of an error installing that build I thought was a add on. I’m just getting familiar with this site, so I’ll stick to the basics.

I would say learn how to install and use addons, some are similar in how they work.
Fen light and POV are very similar because POV is a fork of the original addon FEN.
But POV has its own scrapers and Fen Light use’s CocoScrapers as does Umbrella.
CocoScrapers is a separate addon used in conjunction with those addons for scraping indexers and you can choose which ones you want to use.
You can also have a choice of indexers in POV.
Once you learn how to set and use addons then you can try skins and widgets to make Kodi look how you want it to look.
Then you have your own build.
You don’t need lots of addons installed either.
I only use Fen light with CocoScrapers and have POV as backup.

Once you get comfortable i recommend getting used to having a fork. You literally can set it up exactly as your current kodi and test things on it without worrying you will mess up the original. Like what happend when you added a build instead of an addon. Lol

Appreciate the tip. :index_pointing_at_the_viewer:

I have troy’s kodi fork 21.1 installed on my onn 4k pro android tv box and now I see he has his 21.2 kodi fork in tge toolbox🧰.
If I download the new fork version, will it update my current kodi fork automatically?

No I dont believe Troys forks will update from one version to another. You will just download the new clean version. You can have Forks 21.1 and 21.2 on your device at the same time.

You can only have 1 version of Kodi on your device.

If there is a method to updgrade the fork and keep prior set up i dont know how to do it.

Thanks much !!

You can copy the addon and user data folder from your build then replace it on the new installation.
That is how I transfer my build or keep a backup.
Their are addons that can backup your build that can transfer your setup but I just use the method I mentioned doing.

Hi can anyone help me when I am watching an episode on umbrella it no longer gets a tick by it when I have watched something so I don’t know which episode I have watched now. T.I.A

If this is wrong place sorry

Not sure if this will help but…

Go to settings… go to playback… see what percentage is used to mark item as watched.

I just finished a show and it got the mark. It was set at 85%.

You may also want to look into addon Trakt. Its free and it will keep track of the movies and tv shows for you.

Been using Trakt Tv for years both to keep track of where I am on TV show episodes as well as add new movies/shows to my KODI que. Would be completely lost without it

The one issue I have with Umbrella is the results are alfabetical. I rather have them keep the order they were watched. Is there a setting I missed to change this. My short term memory is getting worse.

LOL I prefer the results being sorted by title I beleive that is the default and what I’m used to. If you are talking about the Trakt results then when you are in “My TV Shows” click left and you should see a menu that gives you other sorting options

I just noticed this also. I dont use Trakt. I did look in general settings and the Indicators setting is set to Local. Someone has said to go into Playback and choose Force Container Refresh. Not sure if that is necessary. This happend after the Umbrella update on the 24th. Is this just a glitch in the update?

There was also an Umbrella update yesterday 2/25. I typically read the changelog to see what the update included. I don’t specifically recall everything but saw that a lot of changes from a previous update were reverted. I use Trakt and all my shows are sorted alpha by title

There is a new update today also. The first item in the change log is for Trakt, setting your indicators. I bet this will also fix the bug for Local. I’ll check it out now.
