We can only WISH they forwarded tech questions to Miki. The folks in India are really good at reading off their monitors, however. “I want you to unplug the device and wait for ten minutes and then plug it back in”. “I already did that”. Next item on the monitor…"is your …

For me a gigabit port is a waste. I only stream, don’t record and have a constant 85Mbs down which is way more than I need for what I do. I rarely get any buffering and for $35 USD, my Max has been an exceptional value.

I pay $100 a month to get 500 Mbps service. I hear everyone talking about anything over 40 or 50 is a waste, but I couldn’t disagree more. I want the most I can get for every single box. I’m not limiting myself to 100 when I pay for 500, that is silly to me.

Agree, and particularly when there are ways to block or get rid of the Amazon bloatware. I like my Mecool, but have FSticks in all the other tvs. Hard to beat that value for streaming. Haven’t recorded on TiviMate with my Mecool (4 ram) yet, but one thing I love is sticking a 128 thumb drive into the side of it and it’s good for basically forever as far as storage is concerned. No need for OTG cables or any other work-around.

Well I can’t say I follow that reasoning. I don’t need any more than around 35Mbs down for quality streaming, and I get 85 with active VPN. I don’t pay for internet, the landlady does and she pays for 100Mbs . So I don’t see the need to pay for or get more than that. Now if I was gaming and could afford a top notch setup, then I’d agree.

I’m guessing I’m the only one on these forums that thinks this, but I’m okay with that. It’s a hill I will die on lol. I run a VPN, but my goal always is to crank that speed up as fast as possible. My Shield Pro, wired, runs 250-280 Mbps with VPN, and I still don’t think that is enough.

I just wired my Max tonight to see if I could actually notice any difference. I can’t. Speeds are almost identical and no difference in picture quality.

I’m getting 185 with wifi and 85 wired. All with SS on. I choose the wired because I don’t get drop offs – more solid signal. Fast enough.

I totally understand AMD…we’re guys…speed (and the need for speed) is in our DNA. Speed is a result of more bandwidth…you having plenty of speed/bandwidth comes in handy when a lot of devices are competing for that bandwidth or you’re downloading big files…or gaming (but there’s more than speed needed for that) so good on ya…hell, I got waaaaay more than I need, but the price was right…so

The thing is…there is a bit of “diminishing return” on speed for streaming…50Mbps will get you streaming 8k quality stuff…but any more than 50Mbps really doesn’t matter…at present…if that speed is stable & constant. Regardless…your extra bandwidth/speed will probably come in handy in plenty of other scenarios around your house…so enjoy it! :cowboy_hat_face:

I have a question about the shield pro if ya’ll don’t mind.

I read it works with alexa, has anyone use it with a echo dot without problems ?

i would like to use a echo with a shield pro because I am about to order 1.

I am wanting to get away from the amazon sticks and try something new is the only reason even though i like the echo speakers.

The Shield pro is 199.00 on amazon right now.

I’ve never had “drop offs”, actually not entirely sure what that means, but my stuff plays perfectly without lockups, sync issues, buffering or other things. But ya see, I’m kinda a simple guy who loves the easy way to do things. Although when I was roadracing motorcycles I sure didn’t mind having more speed than my competitors.

I bet no one streams 8k – or am I wrong? Does RD allow that? You can download an 8k movie, and the server will probably determine the speed of the download more than having 85 mbps vs. 850 mbps. Am I wrong?

It works with Alexa. If you go into the Alexa app, there is an Nvidia Shield TV skill that you can enable.

The dot works with the shield and my router but I dont use it cause alexa already knows too much…just think if she thinks you been online to much and turned it off :joy:…and we already argue enough already

I just don’t think there’s all that much 8k content out there yet…but I could be mistaken. OK…you’re saying “download” an 8k movie…if you download you’re just moving the file from their server to your device. Speed doesn’t mean anything other than how long it’ll take to download that file. Then, it’s just a matter of your device playing it…your throughput speed, or ISP, really doesn’t come into play after the download is completed. Streaming doesn’t care how fast you are, as long as you’re fast enough to play the quality of the video…ie 480/720/1080/4k/8k…each one needs a bit more bandwidth/speed to properly play…any speed past what it needs is moot…as long as it is STABLE. Fluctuating speeds on the border line of what is needed can then cause a disruption in the stream & then the size of your buffer will keep you hanging in there till it stabilizes…hopefully. My Tivimate buffer is set on NONE…only time I get buffer freeze is when they’re doing something with the servers…& then I’m not alone.

I used to have Comcast’s top tier residential gig speed plan and paid more to have it! I have since learned after moving and getting a new IP service that my experience with a lesser speed package seems to be as good as when I had the gig service and I save some bucks in process. Those saved bucks are beer bucks! :beers:

I have a 500 Mbps plan with Spectrum. You can see my speed drops by over 50% when using a VPN. I don’t want to drop down to a less expensive speed, such as their 200 Mbps plan, because if the percentage drop in speed is similar. Then I would be at about 70-80 Mbps using my VPN and that is too close to slow!

We have the same package then, as I have the Spectrum 500Mbps as well. I dont have the fiber option here, or I would consider it. I have thought about going 1 gig, but the package I have does well and it is a big money bump to get that gig. My argument for more speed and bandwidth may have something to do with the 30+ devices that are connected to my mesh system at all times.

30+ DEVICES!!! Geesh, are you supplying the entire neighborhood?

Seriously though, if I would have experienced issues using this slower speed package. Then I would definitely upgrade to a higher speed plan. So far, the 500 Mbps plan seems to work great!

I will know more in a few more months when I add 3-4 more TVs and Nvidias to my array. Right now, I only have 2 TVs, 2 laptops, 1 phone, and 1 tablet, and only 2-3 are ever on at the same time.
