I have tried a few VPN’s, but all throttled my bandwidth almost to a halt. Express VPN has been the exception, besides the slightly higher $$. I need to change the server location every now and then, though.
Again…i would like to know if anyone has suffered any consequence while streaming iptv with no vpn connected? i mean did you get a letter or something…is it diff than streaming hulu or netflix or disney? i don’t get having your speed cut in half for no reason? i do understand if your torrenting(wich i do often) but other than that? what’s the benefit?

Simply put. Security, and with my VPN I do not have any negative impact on my speeds. My system, my choices, none of which do I need to justify. Freedom of choice.

in the USA you have no security now…@miki…the gov’t has access to all of your data
i don’t get the security part?
freedom of choice is no longer an option?

Freedom is always a choice and that’s why you don’t have to use a VPN if you don’t choose to and why I use one because I know they work and keep me secure. I am not in the USA.

you’re lucky you don’t live in this country right now…freedom of choice is actively being attacked right now…no politics…don’t want to go there…some random guy has access to all our private info…i’ll leave it at that

The only problem I had was back in 2016 or 2017 when I first got into this hobby. When I was very new to KODI I found out I could download movies and after I downloaded a few I received the email from Spectrum saying I downloaded shows/movies from my IP address. Never any problem streaming and I don’t use a VPN. Even if I download shows/movies now I don’t get any type of warning from AT&T Fiber who is my current ISP. Maybe because I have Real Debrid?

If you are running a VPN on your streaming devices instead of on a router i myself have always noticed a much larger drop in speed on any device i used unless it has a decent processor or at least 4GB of RAM to be able to run the VPN and other apps at same time without bogging down speeds. With my VPN (Proton)on my T95Z+ streaming box with 4GB RAM or my 3rd gen Fire Cube (only 2GB RAM but decent processor) i show no drop in speed on either device, but with my Onn 4K box (not Pro) and my 3rd gen Firestick both not having over 2GB RAM or decent processor i definitely have speed drop and noticably slower when opening apps and such being bogged down trying to run my VPN app, a monitor/safety dot app, & then a streaming app all @ same time. Running VPN on router is definitely way to go for better speed, but if your router doesn’t support VPN like mine doesn’t then a streaming device that can handle the load i found to be my next best option.

Lol i was just replying to tallsamoan, but my reason for using a VPN while streaming is i have no idea if my ISP is one that cares what im streaming or not and i dont want to take the chance of them sending me a letter of warning about the legality of what i stream. Might be that it would never happen if i didnt use a VPN but i rather not chance it and since i usually get same speeds or better while my VPN is on then in my case i see no reason not to use it, but to each their own. Also sounds crazy but on the odd occasion i have tried an IPTV srvc or two before and for whatever reason they wouldn’t connect unless i had my VPN connected it made no sense to me but im not very tech understanding sometimes.

If you are in the US you will never get a letter from streaming without using a VPN. Downloading? Maybe if you don’t have a Debrid service. I’ve had several IPTV services without a VPN. I think that the IPTV Service only working with a VPN is an old wives tale told here many times but simply not true.
EDIT: I said US but you all are saying ISP’s are blocking streaming in the UK and Europe. Yes that is a known fact but NOT in the good ole US of A

Guess that makes me an old wife lol. Like i said not sure why it happened with me with one or two iptv srvc i tried a while back but it did and didn’t make sense to me either. May have been something with the way i had settings messed up or something. Like i said im not the best at tech just learn as i go and thanks for the info i learn something new every time i visit this place

I definitely know in Europe that some ISP’s put blocks in place by court orders to block iptv servers as I have experienced it myself.
Even a legitimate company like Cloudflare are even suffering these blocks by certain entities.
It’s definitely not an old wife’s tale in Europe.
It may never happen publicly in the US due to the freedom of speech laws.
But an ISP could put a block in place and never announce it publicly.
You’ve also got to remember that football or soccer as it’s called for some reason in the US is the most popular, most televised sport in the world and the broadcasting deals and the money involved are tens of billions.
They are not going to just standby and let criminals pirate copy and distribute these subscription services.

I’m new to the cord-cutting space and Android devices but have been a long-time pc programmer - anyway I had a similar issue with SS if it was enabled more often that not I was not able to use IPTV. Lately I’ve been using MS’s copilot a lot - quite the wealth of information - anyway ‘I’ll call it he’ he suggested I choose a server closest to my physical location - I’m in RI and the closest I could get was Boston - it WORKED ! even with the busy Boston server I get a good iptv connection. The other thing he suggested was giving exceptions to those items not requiring a VPN. It would be great if Troy could ring in on that - what can be safely excluded. So - sofar so good.

Any verified service would not need a VPN unless you need to bypass geo lock

It is certainly a personal choice, but I don’t care if it is verified or unverified, I’d still choose to use my VPNs if it can help keep greedy psycho billionaires and holy nutjobs from unnecessarily spying on me or putting my stuff at risk, even if it isn’t technically necessary to perform a function. Those turds sure as hell don’t play fair and have no regard for anyone but themselves. Just trying to minimize their footprints and fingerprints on my life.
