Thank you. I can’t view it because I’m not as of yet a patron but having said that, it’s not the issue as mentioned. I am outside of the USA and need to use a hotspot to appear I am setting up from there. I’ve just concluded a chat with SS and it will not work. A VPN hotspot will not work on an android device, at least theirs won’t. I’ve already seen that. It’s suppose to work on windows. I have no problem setting these up. I have two.

I have cracked it. I set up my Windows 11 pc as a hot spot, set the vpn to a US server and I was able to complete the set up.
I do not know why it will not set up using Android device (phone), perhaps someone who is more tech savvi than me can explain it.

I did that yesterday. It’s totally installed and functional. It was my chat with SS when I saw that the phone was not working with a VPN, rather my IP address. They informed me, the VPN hotspot will not work with an android phone, use Windows and it’s exactly what I did after following their exact steps that I will post a link to here to make it happen.

Hey Wizzard, so once you completed the setup of your Onn 4k Pro with the hotspot from your Windows, do you need to stay on the hotspot connection? Just trying to figure this out as I plan on getting another Onn 4k Pro from the USA later this month, I already have one setup about 12 months ago and had no problem setting it up ( I live in Canada) using Nord VPN or Surfshark VPN connected to a server in Canada. Once you set this up you need your VPN set to a USA server all the time?

Not at all. Only the setup must be on a USA VPN hotspot but after it’s done, you hook up to your regular internet since it’s the only way to turn on your VPN. As it is, mine has been connecting to USA servers because I’m getting better speed than even the ones closer to me. It’s not going to check again, well, famous last words.

Absolutely not. That being said, I’ve never had to do one on any device and if this is the first, it won’t be any more hassle than setting up anything else again BUT, with that new AVTtools program, that Troy spoke about, I will do a backup of my system. Btw, I just found out there is an AVtools for our tablets and phones in the playstore. I’ve tried it and although to do everything you might want, you need to buy it and it might be the first app I ever did. Now if I could only get that $10 I put on itunes about 15 years ago with a gift card.

I’ve bought and set up two ONN 4k pro units after having two firesticks fail to boot . Had firesticks for many years nut the ONN has won me over. Same easy setup and apps but with memory options and ethernet connection.
Highly recommended

I am glad you enjoy the Onn. Many seem to, I don’t. The 4K Max are easy to add storage to as well as ethernet. I use a powered hub. Well use to is more accurate. I haven’t fired up my Sticks in about 2 years now. I use my Shield Pro and I’m setting up a Ugoos SK1 right now.

I’ve now run into an issue with the ONN. google 4k Pro.
I took one back as having failed but perhaps the issue is elsewhere. I set one up previously with no issues.
Yesterday all is well. Got it plugged in, going through settings, connected to my network easily and when setup completed, an uodate began loading. After it rebooted, no internet connection. It does not see any network and putting the name and passcode in is no help. Basically just bricked.
I have no idea how to proceed. Resetting to factory specs has been no help. Ethernet works fine but is not an option for the elderly woman for whom I’m setting it up

This is often a symptom of the date and time being incorrect. If you can access the settings then go to date and time and make sure they are correct. I know it sounds odd, but others have had the same issue. Let me know if that works for you.

I used to have one of the special boxes from “streamsmart” and the thing would totally freak out if the time and date was not set right. Makes no sense, but it was the way it worked. Could not get rid of that finicky thing fast enough!!!

That was always the first thing they would tell you to do when Windows went berserk. Is your time and date correct? I never really thought about that being an issue with these boxes but they are only itsy tiny little bitsy computers.

If you are looking for certain apps, use Downloader, enter code 250931, which will take you to the Troypoint store. Other apps may be found on the Goggle PlayStore, but because the Onn box runs on the Google version of Android, you won’t find as many compatible apps. You may have to side load the apps you want from other sources. SeeTroy’s setup video.
